Hi, I have been living in Australia since 1990 and have been working for 6 yrs after graduating from University. I have been working in the consumer banking field starting at branch level and now a mortgage loan assessor. I am finding it hard to advance in Australia and want to try my luck in HK. What is your advice for people who have never worked in HK before? I am proficient in spoken and written Cantonese and Mandarin.

To be very honest with you the recruitment market here is still tough and competitive. Of course there's always a chance you might be able to find a job here, I wouldn't be too optimistic though.
Daniel is right, unless you manage to find a job don't quit. If you do have holidays say a month or two, you can try taking a break to come back here to feel how it's like to live and work in a place like HK, completely different working pace and environment as compared to Australia.
Especially when your experience is in the retail banking field, local knowledge and exposure is important and essential, not just language proficiency.

Hi, nice to hear from you. If I were you, I would stay in Australia since HK is very hectic and crowded. You need to prepare to face the air pollution and the very competitive environment. I have been looking for a job for 2 months, but got no reply. If you have a job in AU. I suggest you keep the job. After you get a job in HK, then you can resign.
