Difficulty finding a job after giving birth...
Posted by ncoofly@hotmail.com on 01 Oct 2009
I quit my job 2 months after I came back from maternity leave because of company reorganization. However, I found my interviews are unsucessful everytime when I have been asked if I have a baby and the baby is just few months old. I tried to tell the interviewers that I have a suitable person to look after the baby but it doesn't work. Should I try to lower my expected salary to stay competent and look at some entry level job in another field?

It's not about the salary, but there are too many job seekers, that's why the chance of success is less.

And in the eyes of employers, even you have a full time servant to take care the baby, in case of sickness, you still have to take leave to take care the baby, that's why they have a concern. There's no point to convince the employers that you are not a caring mother.

I think your quitting the job two months after you're back to work could be interpreted as that you're not ready to rejoin the workforce yet in some employer's eyes. You were made to leave that job?

I don't think salary is a major issue in your case, even you're willing to cut your salary if employers don't find your experience relevant and useful, you still don't have a chance.

Did you explain clearly to those employers you didn't want to leave but had to due to the company's reorganization? Have you got something to prove that? Or are your ex-boss or ex-colleagues willing to support you or act as your references should employers want to check?

I don't know what kind of positions you're looking for, the recruitment market is still tough and competitive, employers are picky, with more choices around to select from.

Be patient, stay positive, OK?

Priority to taking care baby is the best approach; or you lower your expected salary to $3,840 will definitely make you success in finding a new job.
